We’re leading the way in redefining the workwear category. Our mission is to engineer better boots and apparel for our country’s tradesmen and women by working directly with real workers to learn what they actually need to execute their jobs.
The BRUNT team is not only devoted to improving on the old workwear standards, but we’re also creating a community that tradesmen and women can call their own. From our weekly hangouts at the BRUNT Garage, to hosting events across the country, we’re all about getting boots on the ground and building something real with the BRUNT crew.
What You’ll Do:BRUNT Workwear is seeking a Director of Media Relations who is ready to roll up their sleeves and build. This is not a "manage the agency" administrative role. This is a hands‑on individual contributor player‑coach position for a relentless storyteller who thrives on the hunt. Reporting to the Chief Brand Officer, and working closely with our Founder / CEO, you will be the architect of our external communications strategy, hyper‑focused on securing top-tier business media coverage.
Your mission is to elevate BRUNT from a "cult favorite" among workers to a household name in the business world, securing features in major broadcast, print, and digital outlets that validate our growth, innovation, and category leadership.
Strategy & Narrative Building
- Corporate Storytelling:
Translate BRUNT’s impressive growth metrics, product innovations, and "boots on the ground" mission into compelling business narratives. - Executive Positioning:
Build the profile of our Founder/CEO as a thought leader in D2C, entrepreneurship, retail innovation, and the future of the trades. - Calendar Management:
Develop a rolling 12‑month PR roadmap that aligns product launches and company milestones with the editorial calendars of major business publications.
Direct Outreach & Pitching (The Core Focus)
- Aggressive Media Relations:
Personally lead the charge on pitching. You will own the relationships with reporters, editors, and producers at outlets like CNBC, WSJ, Forbes, Fast Company, Axios, Bloomberg, and The New York Times. - Broadcast Focus:
Secure on‑air interview opportunities for leadership on top‑tier business cable and digital news outlets, and podcasts. - Newsjacking:
Monitor industry trends (supply chain, blue‑collar labor market, e‑commerce) to insert BRUNT and our Founder/CEO into breaking news cycles as an expert voice.
Execution & Operations
- Press Materials:
Write sharp, non‑corporate press releases, media alerts, and briefing sheets that cut through the noise. - Technology:
Select, onboard and own a chosen public relations software platform that supports your work (i.e. Cision, Muck Rack). - Measurement:
Establish KPIs for media impact, moving beyond "vanity metrics" to measure Share of Voice (SOV) and domain authority growth. - Executive Support:
Directly support Founder/CEO across owned and earned channels to manage content calendar, coordinate media events, and drive thought leadership efforts. - Crisis & Corporate Comms:
Support Chief Brand Officer as the primary point of contact for all corporate inquiries and manage sensitive communications with poise. - External Partner Management (Future):
Own and manage day‑to‑day future relationships with agency partners that may be brought in for key projects.
- Experience:
8+ years of PR experience, ideally with a mix of high‑growth D2C/consumer brands and corporate communications. - The "Rolodex":
You have active, current relationships with business and retail reporters at national tier‑1 outlets.
You can pick up the phone and get a response! - Business Acumen:
You understand how to translate business metrics into a story that investors and editors care about. - Hunter Mentality:
You don't wait for news to happen; you find the angle and pitch it. You are persistent and resilient in the face of "no." - Writing Chops:
You write like a human, not a robot. Your pitches are concise, punchy, and impossible to ignore.
