The Software Engineering team in North Reading is looking for an experienced Linux Software Engineer III. Responsibilities include configuring and managing Linux OS environments in both physical computers and VMs, designing custom Linux OS automation scripts to customer specifications, building and maintaining Linux installers and custom distribution packages, and troubleshooting and improving the above solutions. You will balance a variety of tasks related to requirements definition, software system design, development, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance, and interact with multi‑functional teams from product definition through product release.

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
• 3–8 years of experience working in Linux‑like environments (Linux/BSD/Mac OS/mingw/Cygwin/Android)
• Solid knowledge of computer boot principles (any architecture)
• Solid knowledge of operating system working principles (Windows, Linux): management of processes/threads, environment, user accounts, software packaging, remote access with ssh/scp/sftp
• Working knowledge of Linux shell scripts for basic text processing and automation (bash, find, grep)
• Basic knowledge of network configuration (IP addressing, DHCP, network adapters/connections, Ethernet topology)
• Linux network administration or web server management or build toolchain creation (from source) experience
• Basic knowledge of different Linux flavors or cross‑OS experience is a plus
• Basic knowledge of C/C++ and Linux build environment (make, ld, gcc/g) is a plus
• Basic knowledge of security concepts (public‑private keys, certificates, ssl/tls, ssh, TPM, TPM2) is a plus
• Able to clearly express your ideas and concepts both written and verbally
• Driven to get the job done and not afraid to go the extra mile

The base salary range for this role is $127,800 – $204,400. This range is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with experience and skill set. This range can also fluctuate depending on demand and location.
