KCR Solutions are delighted to be supporting a progressive and expanding accountancy practice in Newcastle with the appointment of a Trainee Accountant.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build on their existing experience within a supportive and fast-paced environment, working with a varied client base and modern cloud-based systems.

Our client is looking for a confident and organised individual who enjoys working with clients and takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality work.

The Opportunity

You will play a key role in supporting client finances, working across bookkeeping, VAT, and accounts preparation, while building strong relationships with both clients and HMRC.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage client bookkeeping activities using cloud accounting software such as Xero, Quick Books, and Sage
  • Accurately code and analyse financial transactions
  • Complete bank and cash reconciliations, ensuring records are correct and up to date
  • Assist in the preparation of management accounts for both internal and client use
  • Support year-end processes by preparing information up to trial balance
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns for a range of clients
  • Carry out reviews of VAT returns prior to submission to ensure accuracy
  • Ensure all VAT work complies with HMRC regulations and current legislation
  • Communicate confidently with clients via email, phone, and meetings
  • Act as a point of contact with HMRC, dealing with queries, submissions, and compliance matters
  • Provide clear updates and guidance to clients regarding their financial position and records
About You

To succeed in this role, you will be detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a client-facing environment.

  • Experience in an accounts or bookkeeping role (practice experience advantageous)
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong client relationships
  • Well-organised, with the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines
  • Good understanding of VAT processes and requirements
  • Confident using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Experience working with cloud accounting packages (Xero, Quick Books, Sage)
