To ensure the systematic provision of a high quality highly specialised Clinical Psychology Service to Older Adults living in North Tyneside.

To provide advice to the Trust to inform the development of such services.

To provide expert and highly specialised neuropsychological advice to patients with acquired brain damage across the adult age range, including older adults, in North Tyneside, their families and other health and social services professionals involved in their care.

To provide advice, informed by neuropsychological expertise to the Trust as a whole about services to people with acquired brain injury.

Main duties of the job

The post holder exercises the discretion to provide highly specialized neuropsychological assessments for patients living in any other area served by the Trust on special request from and following discussion with a referring consultant or other appropriate senior officer.

The post holder provides expert advice in relation to the psychological care of older adults and Clinical Neuropsychology to Trust wide services (e.g. Stroke Northumbria) and to relevant officers and committees with a Trust wide remit.

Job responsibilities

The Psychiatry of Old Age Service in North Tyneside consists of four community multidisciplinary teams, an Early Onset Dementia Team as well as associated day and inpatient facilities. The post holder fulfils a tertiary function within and across the whole secondary service which is relevant, highly accessible and equitable within existing resources. This service is also provided to the Medical Directorate as a whole within the North Tyneside locality.

Specification Qualifications
  • Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and Neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the HCPC and British Psychological Society.
  • HCPC registered practitioner psychologist.
  • Qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.
Experience
  • Substantial post qualification experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, and inpatient settings.
  • Substantial post qualification experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, and inpatient settings.
