Clinical Pharmacist
Northumbria supports our clinical pharmacists in their professional development by utilizing a foundation programme of education and training. This includes structured rotations, educational opportunities and a foundation pharmacist framework.
Our progressive team has a national reputation for innovation and development and one of the highest proportions of pharmacist prescribers in the country, using their skills for patients on general wards, in specialist clinics, GP practices, in their own homes and in care homes.
This is a rotational post with an expectation to work at all trust sites. Weekend working and on‑call are part of the clinical teams. The Specialist Emergency Care Hospital is supported by a 7‑day clinical pharmacy service. You will work at a range of sites within the Trust and in primary/community care settings. Flexible working is available and job sharing is welcome.
Applicants may be trainee pharmacists due to qualify in August 2026 or recently qualified pharmacists.
We can offer a band 6 clinical pharmacist flexible working plan which is facilitated trust‑wide and can be discussed h permanent and fixed‑term roles are available. Full‑time and part‑time hours may be considered.

Expectations- Provide professional and clinical input as a member of a pharmacy team involved in the delivery of clinical pharmacy services, undertaking a wide variety of duties, including prescribing medication where appropriate as part of the profession.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of medicines use by inputting to clinical governance and risk reduction activities.
- Participate in clinical audit and practice development activities.
- Complete continuous professional development aligned with the RPS Foundation Pharmacist Pathway and post‑qualification training as required.
Northumbria manages three major locality hospitals (North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham), plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to the state‑of‑the‑art Specialist Emergency Care Hospital. Services are also provided in people’s homes and local community facilities such as health centres, helping people to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate.

As a clinical pharmacist you would predominantly work across our four main clinical sites:
Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, North Tyneside General Hospital, Wansbeck General Hospital and Hexham General Hospital. Expectation to work at other trust sites, GP practices, care homes and patients' homes may apply.
Current working hours for the Specialist Emergency Care Hospital are 08:15 am–16:45 pm; for other sites 08:30–17:00 pm, subject to change based on service needs. On‑call and weekend cover is allocated on a rotational basis.
