Specialist Nurse Gynaecology Oncology

Due to promotion, an opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Gynaecology Oncology Specialist Nurse to join our dedicated team. This role will provide expert, patient-centred care and support to women undergoing investigation, treatment, and follow-up for gynaecological cancers. As a specialist nurse and main point of contact throughout the patient pathway, you will coordinate care across multidisciplinary teams, deliver holistic assessments, provide specialist advice and emotional support, and contribute to service improvement and patient experience initiatives.

The successful candidate will be a Registered Nurse with experience in oncology, gynaecology, or cancer care, excellent communication skills, and a passion for delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to patients and their families.

Main duties of the job

Support the Clinical Nurse Specialist with a defined case load, including setting the standards of care, assessing care needs, and developing, implementing and evaluating programmes of care.

Act as a link between the MDT and other primary and secondary care providers both locally and regionally to provide a seamless pathway of care to oncology patients across gynaecology.

Deliver care working with defined protocols for a defined caseload in clinics and referral to medical colleagues if any deviation from patient care occurs.

Participate in the development of nurse‑led services within gynaecology.

Role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape a collective leadership culture within the trust.

Job responsibilities

Participate in research and clinical audits in own specialist area.

Provide nursing care at an advanced level and defend patient group.

Provide and assess the need for symptomatic and psychological support to patients by maintaining close contact via telephone, outpatient and ward visits.

Provide information and ongoing support to pre and post‑op patients.

Participate in trust‑wide educational events and be available as a learning resource.

Assess, plan and implement patient care pathways with defined protocols and refer as necessary.

Contribute to the provision of specialist training to nurses and medical staff.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • 1st Level live NMC required Registered Nurse
  • Registered Mentor
  • PP126/127 or equivalent
  • D32/33
  • Basic Counselling course
  • Degree in relevant subject

  • Evidence of innovation in practice
  • Knowledge of primary care
  • Evidence of practice development
