Pharmacy Technician / Pharm Tech Apprenticeship

This role is part of Walgreens’ Pharmacy Technician Training Program, an apprenticeship that combines on‑the‑job training with classroom instruction. In this position you will work closely with our pharmacists, interact with patients and customers, and gain the skills and certification required to become a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certified technician.

$17.00/hr – $20.50/hr

• Assist the pharmacist under direct supervision in all aspects of pharmacy practice in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policy.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, process prescriptions, enter data accurately, and fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
• Co‑coach and support other pharmacy technicians on system use and cashier operations if PTCB certified.
• Report prescription errors immediately and adhere to the company’s Quality Improvement Program.
• Maintain compliance with Good Faith Dispensing and the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.

• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive experience.
• Model and share best customer‑service practices with all team members.
• Build strong relationships with valuable customers.

• Assist in scheduling, maintaining workflow, and inventory management activities such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceuticals.
• Handle cash register duties, collect and handle cash, and assist customers in locating products.
• Handle telephone calls that do not require pharmacist attention.
• Process manual claims for third‑party prescription services promptly and accurately.
• Maintain knowledge of asset‑protection techniques and file claims for overages, shortages, and order errors.
• Assist with clinical services including sample collection and coordination of Walgreens healthcare clinics.
• Assist the Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in building relationships with local medical professionals and health‑care providers.
• Ensure the pharmacy department is stocked, clean, neat, and orderly.
• Comply with all company policies and complete special assignments as directed.

• Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program or state‑required certification.
• Attend manager‑requested training and acquire continuing education credits.
• Maintain knowledge of pharmacy developments and best practices.

• Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

• At least six months of retail experience.
• Prior experience with Walgreens preferred.
• Strong math skills for accurate prescription counting, measuring, and weighing.
• Good computer skills.
• Knowledge of store inventory control.
• PTCB certification preferred.
