Overview
A client within the Public Sector, based in Tyne and Wear, is currently recruiting for a Highways Principal Engineer to join their Highways and Transportation team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full-time, temporary position on an ongoing basis, with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority highways engineering environment.
The RoleThe key purpose of the role is to support the delivery of highways and civil engineering services, ensuring the Authority meets its statutory duties through effective asset management, planned maintenance, and project delivery in line with industry best practice.
- Managing systems of highway works to meet statutory maintenance obligations
- Preparing and implementing planned highway maintenance programmes
- Managing and monitoring budgets associated with highways works
- Inspecting works on site to ensure quality, compliance, and specification standards
- Supporting the highway inspection regime and asset management processes
To be considered for this role, you will require the following essential qualifications:
- HNC in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience in highways civil engineering
- Full UK Driving Licence
The following skills and experience would be beneficial:
- Experience working within a local authority highways engineering service
- Knowledge of highways legislation, health and safety, and CDM regulations
- Experience managing budgets and planned maintenance programmes
- Strong communication skills, with experience dealing with members and the public
The client is looking to move quickly with this role and, as such, are offering £55 per hour Umbrella LTD (Inside IR35) (approximately £45 per hour PAYE).
