Overview
Colleague Services are looking for a Payroll Assistant to join the People Team, supporting the delivery of high-quality payroll services across North Tyneside Council.
Under the direction of the Payroll and Pensions Manager, the role is responsible for completing administration relating to colleague pay, ensuring records are accurate, up to date and that colleagues are paid correctly and on time. The role provides frontline advice and guidance to managers and employees on payroll-related queries, including pay, pensions, terms and conditions and statutory payments, while maintaining a strong focus on excellent customer service.
The postholder will support a wide range of internal customers, ensuring payroll processes are delivered in line with relevant legislation, policies, deadlines and service standards. They will also contribute to process improvements, reporting and project work to support continuous service development.
The successful candidateThe successful candidate will have experience of working in a customer-focused administrative environment, ideally with exposure to HR or payroll systems. They will demonstrate a strong attention to detail, the ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines, and confidence in handling sensitive information.
They will be able to provide advice and guidance to managers and colleagues, interpret data, and maintain accurate records, while working collaboratively as part of a team. Experience of payroll processes, including calculations related to pay, deductions, tax and pensions, would be advantageous, alongside strong ICT skills including Excel, Word and Outlook.
The ideal candidate will be proactive, customer-focused and committed to delivering a high-quality service, while contributing to service improvements and supporting wider team objectives.
