Northern Powergrid is looking for talented Contract Managers to join our Programme Delivery team to enhance, drive and improve the delivery performance of our outsourced contracts. As a Contract Manager, you will be at the heart of our Operations teams, taking ownership and responsibility for the effective operational control and delivery of outsourced contracts to ensure efficient and consistent delivery of capital and operational expenditure.

We're the people who manage the electricity network that powers everyday life for more than 8 million people across 3.9 million homes and businesses in the North-East, Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire.

Along with a competitive salary of £55,000 - £65,000

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with Programme Delivery and Regional Operations management teams and support in all aspects of contract management to include pre and post contract award activities
  • Work closely with colleagues from other areas of the business - Commercial, Safety, Health & Environment, Customer Service, Engineering and Finance directorates
  • Ensure relevant and effective communication channels across our suite of outsourced contracts and other areas of the business as appropriate
  • Promote collaborative working relationships, with our external service provider partners, to promote sharing of innovation, process improvement and delivery efficiency
  • Undertake peer contractor reviews to set new benchmarks and identify best-practice
  • Take ownership and responsibility for required pre, and post contract award activities, including but not limited to:
    • Pre-contract award – Identification of new outsourced requirements, support the development of tender documents through to establishment and implementation of agreed contract mobilisation plans (and demobilisation where a contract is renewed)
    • Post-contract award – Responsibility for the day-to-day operational control, governance and management of framework contracts; this extends to all aspects of the performance of the awarded contracts. Risk identification and mitigation along with appropriate intervention where necessary. Dispute resolution / escalation.
  • Have a proven track record in process improvement, cost control, driving high standards of Health & Safety, quality and timely delivery.
  • Ability to motivate self / others (both internal and external to Northern Powergrid) and be a delivery focused team player, promoting innovation and improved working methods to increase work performance and reduce costs
  • Demonstrate commitment to Northern Powergrid’s Power of 10 Principles – Personal responsibility, Work as a team, Deliver quality, Drive improvement, Build a stronger team
  • Ability to develop, foster and manage internal and external relationships at a variety of levels
  • Demonstration of excellent communication skills, report writing, presentation and IT literacy / proficiency in Microsoft office applications
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize and monitor progress, implementing controls to ensure tasks are achieved to time cost and quality
  • Ability to manage situations when workload presents conflicting demands on time availability, demonstrating an ability to effectively prioritise
  • Contractual knowledge and ability to interpret key contract terms, coupled with strong commercial acumen
Qualifications & Experience
  • Level 4 - applications from those who have commensurate experience will also be considered.
  • Relevant experience in contract management
  • Relevant experience administering a range of contracts
  • Relevant experience with scheme / project finance and commercial management
  • Full, current UK driving licence.
Other beneficial attributes/experience
  • Experience in the utility construction industry
  • Experience of performance managing / working with large framework / schedule of rates contracts, KPI analysis, contract claims and budgetary management
  • Experience of interfacing with contractors and effective project management skills
  • Knowledge of the financial management system
  • A basic understanding of the electrical network
  • Good analytical skills
