Carpenter, Trades ​/ Skilled Labor

Houston Landscapes Ltd. is seeking Carpenter for its location in North Vancouver, BC. It’s a full-time (40 hours per week), permanent position $35.00/hour paid on a bi-weekly basis. Overtime compensation is based on the current BC Employment Standards Act (1.5 times the regular wage paid if the daily hours exceed 8 hours or the weekly hours exceed 40 hours).

We offer an employee benefit plan that includes health benefits available after 6 months with the company. Two weeks of paid vacation each year.

Job duties:

• Study specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plan to prepare landscape project layout and determine dimensions and materials required;
• Construct decks, garden walls, walkways, stairs, fountains and waterfalls, retaining walls and BBQ stations;
• Inspect and replace damaged framework or other structures and fixtures;
• Assemble and fasten material using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue;
• Assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials;
• Measure, cut, or shape wood and other materials;
• Measure and mark cutting lines on materials using ruler, pencil, chalk, and marking gauge;
• Install, repair, and/or renovate structures and fixtures using carpenter's hand and power tools;
• Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment;
• Instruct and direct labourers and any construction helpers;
• Complete daily paperwork tracking job time and material costs;
• Responsible for hardscape and softscape landscape construction.

Requirements:

• Must have completed high school;
• Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving history;
• Must have at least two years of work experience as a Carpenter or a combination of experience and education/training;
• Manual dexterity is a must;
• The position is physically demanding;
• Must be able to work under minimum supervision;
• Must have an attention to details;
• Must be able to work under pressure of tight deadlines; at heights, in confined, noisy, and/or dusty spaces;
• Must be able to handle heavy loads
• Must have excellent problem solving, decision making, job task planning and organizing skills;
• Must be willing to work in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to speak, read and write in English.
