The Opportunity
Join the District of Sechelt and play a vital role in supporting our employees and ensuring accurate, timely payroll services that keep our operations running smoothly. As the Payroll and Administrative Coordinator
, you will manage payroll processes, maintain employee records, and provide administrative support to enhance efficiency across departments. Acting as a key liaison between employees, management, and external partners, you will ensure confidentiality, accuracy, and compliance in all tasks.

Key Responsibilities
- Administer and process payroll in compliance with employment standards, collective agreements, and internal policies.
- Maintain accurate employee records and ensure confidentiality at all times.
- Provide administrative support to improve efficiency across multiple departments.
- Serve as a liaison between employees, management, and external partners.
- Prepare reports and validate transactions with accuracy and attention to detail.
Role Requirements
Applicants must meet the following qualifications:
- Grade 12 diploma (or equivalent) plus a completion of a two‑year diploma in Payroll Administration.
- 1‑3 years’ experience in payroll, or a similar role (an equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered).
- Certification as a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP).
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.
- Working knowledge of payroll administration in a unionized environment, including compliance with Collective agreements, Employment Standards and other related legislation.
- Demonstrates sound judgment and advanced analytical skills in evaluating and validating transactions.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with external agencies and suppliers.
- Proven ability to work under pressure, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Proven ability to apply attention to detail and accuracy when compiling financial data and reports.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise tact and discretion when exchanging confidential information.
- a high level of proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office tools and the ability to easily learn new programs with training.
Preferred
- Experience working with Ceridian’ Dayforce payroll software
- Familiarity with municipal government operations
- Advanced Excel skills
Working Conditions
This is a temporary, 12‑month contract backfill for a unionized position within the BCGEU. Wage for the position is set at Grid Level 8, $35.91 - $39.90 (2026 rates) per hour, plus 9.8% of the straight‑time pay in lieu of scheduled vacations, paid holidays, health and welfare benefits and other paid leave. Hours of work will be 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
