About the Role
The Project Safety Lead is a critical member of the on‑site leadership team and is responsible for driving safety performance across all phases of the project. This role provides hands‑on safety leadership, ensures compliance with regulatory and client requirements, and promotes a proactive, solutions‑focused safety culture among employees and subcontractors. This is a project‑based, fixed‑term position, operating on a 10 days on / 4 days off rotation.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and manage safety documentation, records, and incident statistics
- Review site safety documentation and provide constructive feedback and coaching
- Support planning for new work activities and conduct worker orientations
- Lead toolbox talks, safety meetings, and training sessions
- Monitor safety compliance among employees and subcontractors
- Conduct hazard assessments, site inspections, and incident investigations
- Keep management informed of safety risks and potential operational impacts
- Promote and uphold safe work practices across the project site
- Proactively participate in hazard identification and risk‑reduction initiatives
- Minimum 5 years of field safety experience, ideally in industrial, marine, or heavy civil construction
- Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to influence safe work behaviours
- Post‑secondary education in a related field
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized with a results‑driven mindset
- Willingness to work a 10/4 rotational schedule and travel as required
- Qualified safety designation (CRSP, RCSO, CHSC, CSS, CIH, ROH) preferred
- Occupational First Aid Level 3 (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience with BCCSA COR programs and auditing
- High personal, professional, and ethical standards
- Proactive, solutions‑oriented approach with sound judgment
- Strong relationship‑building, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
- Excellent time‑management and prioritization abilities
