. Educators will lead the Gently Down the Seymour (GDS) program, facilitated with the Seymour Salmonid Society, as well as Wild Kidz and Go Wild camps under the Education and Volunteer Engagement (EVE) department.

Our team strives to foster an inclusive team culture that takes responsibility when engaging with outdoor spaces. Our programming increases learning opportunities for youth across BC towards sustainable food harvest, outdoor sports, and conservation‑focused careers.

During the spring and fall, Educators will lead the Gently Down the Seymour program (35 hours/week) at the Seymour River Hatchery in North Vancouver. Educators will work only on days when field trips are scheduled, following the regular school calendar. Two unpaid weeks will occur during spring break (March 16–27).

During July–August, Educators will travel with the Youth Programs staff team to run four summer day camps and one overnight camp. The Wild Kidz day camps for ages 8‑12 take place in communities across the province (50 hours/week). The Go Wild 7‑day overnight camp for ages 13‑17 takes place at Silver Lake Forest Centre in Peachland ($220.00/day). During camp weeks, BCWF will provide lodging, transportation and meals.

Position Purpose

Educators implement educational programming for the BCWF’s Education and Volunteer Engagement team. Programs include but are not limited to Gently Down the Seymour (GDS), Wild Kidz, Go Wild, and the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). Educators facilitate the Gently Down the Seymour, Wild Kidz, and Go Wild summer programs.

Core Responsibilities Program Delivery
  • Gently Down the Seymour
    • Facilitate GDS full‑day school programs in partnership with the Seymour Salmonid Society (March to June / September to October).
    • Learn and lead developed programs.
    • Complete necessary administrative work.
  • Wild Kidz and Go Wild
    • Facilitate Wild Kidz day camps (July – August, with several weeks off in between).
    • Facilitate Go Wild overnight camp (August 9 – 15).
    • Purchase camp supplies.
    • Learn and lead educational programs.
    • Support camp conservation projects.
    • Support Range Officers’ instruction of camp Range Day events:
      • Manage youth behaviours while they participate in archery and firearms activities.
      • Encourage youth to try new disciplines.
      • All range day activities are supervised and led by trained Range Safety Officers. Camp Leaders focus on ensuring campers are attentive and adhere to all range rules and are not responsible for instructing firearms activities.
    • Complete necessary camp administrative work.
    • Communicate with parents.
  • National Archery in the Schools Program
    • Receive Basic Archery Instructor (BAI) certification.
    • Lead and assist with archery and other NASP‑related events and activities.
Marketing and Communication
  • Attend outreach events to increase public engagement with BCWF programs as needed.
  • Assist in developing information packages for parents, grantors, sponsors, and other partners.
  • Meet with parents and other partners.
  • Assist in preparing material for social media posts (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, etc.), advertisements, posters, blogs, and newsletters to highlight program and project successes.
Administration
  • Track program expenses.
