Project Overview
The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west‑southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It involves the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the former Woodfibre pulp mill site, with a storage capacity of 250,000 m³ and expected production of approximately 2.1 million tons per year of LNG.

PositionThe Operations Technician – Utilities is an integral part of Woodfibre LNG’s dynamic Operations team. The successful candidate reports directly to the Shift Supervisor and will be based on the Project Site in Squamish, BC. The role supports the company’s Operations Team through Operations Readiness Assurance (ORA) planning and execution, and into the Start‑Up and operational phase of the project. The technician will also be a key contributor to environmental and social responsibilities, upholding Woodfibre LNG’s highest standards.
Key Responsibilities- Part of ORA Core Team: develop operating procedures, manuals and core documentation required for safe and efficient operation.
- Support Operations Management in executing the ORA Plan to ensure readiness for Start‑Up and ongoing operation.
- Ensure safe production and execution of standard activities/tasks in the plant operational area during the shift.
- Ensure availability and reliability of plant and equipment during the shift.
- Support implementation of the agreed Maintenance Strategy.
- Support Permit to Work (PTW) including functionality/improvements, isolation standards, competencies, issuing, precautions, compliance, audits and PTW manuals.
- Ensure all equipment and plant handed over for maintenance are correctly isolated and in a safe state for personnel to undertake tasks.
- Maintain competencies and training requirements in place and measured.
- Develop and implement checklists & routines for plant and equipment.
- Timely delivery of input data and accuracy for plant daily shift report to Shift Supervisor.
- Interface with the Technical Services Department for integrity issues and compliance checks.
- Interface with HSSE department for compliance and improvements.
- Interface with other departments for support requirements and documentation.
- 100% compliance with company HSE policies and guidelines.
- Champion HSE as member of the LNG Operations Team.
- Attend HSE shift meetings, safety walks and audits when required.
- Timely intervention to mitigate risks and ensure safety of personnel and plant.
- Demonstrate personal commitment to influence overall safety behaviour in the plant.
- Safeguarding system checklists are implemented/completed by Shift Operations to agreed frequencies and standards.
- Ensure Shift Operations Emergency Response capabilities are 100% met during shift period.
- Basic fire fighting and emergency response experience preferred.
- High School Diploma.
- Minimum 2–3 years in utility operations of industrial facilities.
- 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate and/or EOCP Water tickets Level I/II, with understanding of 4th Class Power Engineering required; certification to be obtained in the near future.
- Previous experience as an Operations Technician – Utilities (Utility Operator).
- Previous experience during project phase leading into Start‑Up and Operations.
- Previous experience working with other departments to support production targets.
- Fully versed in managing Permit to Work systems.
- Communication/interpersonal skills to interact effectively with all departments and contractors.
- Ability to work well under pressure, handle tasks, targets and changing priorities within tight time‑frames.
- Expertise with a variety of computer programs (e.g., MS Office).
- Valid driver’s licence (with abstract) and passport.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Position is based in Squamish, BC (Project Site) with an initial stay period at the Vancouver office.
Hourly Rate: CAD $49 – $62 per hour.
