We are seeking an Industrial Chemistry Technologist / Operator to support materials synthesis, forming, quality control, and laboratory operations. This role is highly hands-on and will work at the intersection of R&D and materials production.

The ideal candidate has a strong chemistry background, experience working directly with chemicals and laboratory and production equipment, and is comfortable building, modifying, and operating experimental systems. This position requires laboratory safety training, attention to detail, and the ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

This is a fully in-person position based in British Columbia and requires on-site work. Remote or hybrid work is not available for this role.

Experience working with automated or semi-automated equipment in industries such as gas processing, oil & gas, pulp and paper, batteries, or applied R&D environments is considered a strong asset.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform materials synthesis, formulation, and forming and production processes in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Support materials production and scale-up activities, ensuring consistency and reproducibility.
  • Conduct quality control (QC) testing to verify material performance, batch consistency, and specifications.
  • Accurately record experimental procedures, observations, and results.
  • Set up, modify, commission, operate, and maintain laboratory and pilot-scale equipment.
  • Build and configure test stations, fixtures, and instrumentation for materials evaluation.
  • Calibrate and maintain instrumentation for flow, pressure, temperature, and gas analysis.
  • Handle compressed gases and gas cylinders safely and in compliance with regulations.
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency of data collection and storage.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve process, material, or equipment issues.
  • Generate routine experimental summaries, QC reports, and test documentation.
  • Assist with continuous improvement of workflows and SOPs.
  • Maintain laboratory and workshop spaces in clean, organized, and safe working condition.
  • Source laboratory supplies, obtain vendor quotes, and manage materials required for testing.
  • Support cross-functional projects and other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Technical degree or diploma in chemistry, or Chemical engineering related fields
  • Experience:

    Minimum 2 years of hands-on laboratory or industrial experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with chemicals, materials synthesis, or chemical processes.
  • Familiarity with common laboratory equipment and safe chemical handling practices.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with experimental or custom-built systems.
Preferred / Assets
  • Experience with material production, slurries, or surface treatments.
  • Experience with QC testing, reproducibility studies, or batch verification.
  • Familiarity with PLC- or LabVIEW-based control and data acquisition systems.
  • Experience in applied R&D, pilot plants, or industrial test environments.
  • Background in gas handling, adsorption, separations, or process testing environments.

CAD $56,000 - $75,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications
