Mechanical Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Engineering Design & Technologists
Provides engineering and design solutions in assigned area of Marine Systems by reviewing and assessing design and calculation packages to ensure contract design requirements are met.
Perform calculations to validate propulsion system designs (e.g., shaft alignment, exhaust back pressure, fuel flow rates, cooling system capacity).
Develop and/or review material specifications, equipment data sheets, and bills of materials in line with project requirements, class rules, and Seaspan material strategies.
Provides direction to suppliers and subcontractors related to the mechanical design to achieve contract, cost and schedule performance.
Performs field reviews and provides support to production.
Reports technical risk and develops mitigation strategies
Develops Test Agendas and Equipment Installation Strategies
Liaises with downstream business groups to provide information required for production planning and supports issues encountered on the shop floor.
Generates equipment purchase specifications.
Reviews vendor information against the requirements.
Liaises with internal clients regarding the design outputs.
Proactively ensures the design tasks are conducted in partnership with other engineering disciplines and ensures good communication of design interfaces with other teams.
Selects components and develops the maturity of parts associated with the Bill of Materials
Coordinate design packages for client and classification society approval.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
What you must have:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Systems or Mechanical Engineering is required.
2–5 years of engineering experience, preferably in shipbuilding or the marine industry, with exposure to propulsion and mechanical systems.
Knowledge of main diesel engines, thrusters, gearboxes, shaft lines, exhaust systems, fuel systems, and related auxiliary systems is an asset.
P.Eng. designation preferred; EIT will be considered (please specify anticipated P.Eng. date in application)
Experience working with a diverse integrated project team is considered an asset.
Analytical skills to gather and analyze/synthesize data, confirming its accuracy and adequacy as a key part of the collective analysis/synthesis process.
Experience completing schematic design and supporting calculations.
Knowledge & familiarity with heavy machinery (ex. Main Diesel Engines, Thrusters, shaftline) is considered an asset.
Technical writing skills including the ability to produce and present clear, detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports.
Understanding of Ship Constructor, CADMATIC and ACAD software, document control systems and databases.
Ability to work effectively across a multi-disciplined team.
Critical thinker with the ability to analyze change requests, projects, and designs to anticipate schedule or budget risk.
Organizational and interpersonal skills.
Committed to a high standard of safety and able to follow all safety laws and all the employer's safety policies and rules.
Proficient computer skills. Working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office 2010 software suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
Salary/Rate Range: $41.00 -$50.00 per hour
