Dark Vision, a Koch Engineered Solutions company, is seeking a highly organized NDE Technician to perform the in-lab and in-ditch assessment to inform the validation and development of our newly launched pipeline inspection technology. This role encompasses benchmarking and communicating the performance of the novel technology for specific industry use cases. We are looking for someone who blends excellent organization, collaboration, and project management skills with the ability to quickly grasp complex technical information and communicate with cross‑functional stakeholders (product, sales, research, and engineering).

This role is mostly on‑site and is based out of Dark Vision’s head office in North Vancouver, BC, where employees enjoy full access to our facility amenities including a well‑equipped gym, squash court, climbing wall, steam room, private showers, and more.

In‑the‑ditch field work is required part‑time, anticipated to be approximately 20%. Travel is required across North America.

What

You Will Do

In this role, you will work with Product, Research, and Data teams to help evaluate and validate pipeline anomalies and provide assessments of pipeline inspection technologies. You will carry out industry best practices to perform non‑destructive assessments of anomalies in pipelines. You’ll work at the forefront of technological advancement, validating and benchmarking new inspection tools and methodologies. You will also be trained in our analysis software.

Your feedback and insights will help shape the future of pipeline integrity management, making inspection processes more accurate, efficient, and reliable.

Through meticulous analysis and reporting, you will transform complex inspection data into actionable insights. Your clear communication will empower stakeholders—from product teams to executives—to make informed decisions that enhance asset reliability and operational excellence.

NDE Inspections
  • Perform UT, MT, and VT NDE evaluations of pipeline anomalies in the lab and in the field
  • Use PAUT, TFM, and TOFT ultrasound inspection methods to detect and size anomalies
  • Evaluate various anomalies in pipelines including but not limited to: hook cracks, SCC, laminations, metal loss, deformations, and complex interacting defects
  • Maintain inspection tools, UT equipment, probes, and consumables
  • Complete field reports, data logs, and digital documentation
Testing Validation
  • Work closely with Research and Data teams to help understand and interpret NDE inspection results, data, reports, and other ultrasound datasets from internal and external sources
  • Help identify and specify requirements for test samples and test setups
  • Conduct equipment setup, calibration, and system checks
  • Utilize our data analysis software to provide an assessment of the results
Inspection Programs
  • Be the subject matter expert on best practices of in‑the‑ditch pipeline inspection techniques and methodologies
  • Help develop training materials and provide guidance to our Research and Analysis teams
  • Be responsible for technical oversight and qualification programs of our analysis procedures, and ensure industry standards are met
  • Support continuous improvement of inspection techniques and workflows
Communication
  • Distill the results into easily digestible reports and presentations
  • Help distill and share industry standards for detection and sizing to the broader company
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • 3+ years of relevant NDE experience
  • ASNT NDT Level 2 or ISO 9712 Level 2 or CGSB Level 2 equivalent certification in Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel and work in remote field locations, including in the USA
