We are seeking a highly experienced Leading Project Manager (Civil Engineering) in our Toronto office to oversee Transportation, Marine, and Rail Projects. The ideal candidate will have 13+ years of experience in managing engineering projects, with a comprehensive understanding of project management methodologies, and great communication and leadership skills.

The candidate may have a technical or non-technical background, is looking to transition into the next stage of their career and demonstrate an interest in developing Project Management across COWI’s North American offices. As the Leading Project Manager, you will be responsible for the delivery of projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Oversee the entire project lifecycle, from initiation to completion, ensuring that project goals, timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
  • Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables in collaboration with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams.
  • Manage the engineering design process, coordinating multiple disciplines working in parallel to ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Lead technical discussions with clients, providing direction, addressing project challenges, and ensuring effective communication between all parties.
  • Develop and monitor project plans, schedules, and budgets, ensuring compliance with agreed timelines and financial targets.
  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize potential delays or cost overruns.
  • Ensure strict compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements throughout all project phases.
  • Maintain responsibility for the financial performance of projects, including budget tracking, variance analysis, and Engineering Services During Construction (ESDC) management.
  • Manage contractual and commercial aspects, including contract notices, client and subconsultant claims, and subconsultant variations.
  • Conduct commercial negotiations with clients regarding progress claims, contract variations, and ESDC agreements.
  • Assess and plan human resource needs for current and future project phases, ensuring the efficient allocation of technical personnel.
  • Supervise construction field engineering activities, ensuring that design reviews and on-site engineering requirements are met.
  • Prepare, review, and evaluate tender and contract documents, including subconsultant proposals for construction and design projects.
  • Facilitate team collaboration, providing leadership and guidance to project team members while promoting a culture of teamwork and innovation.
  • Participate in project review meetings, sharing insights on lessons learned and best practices to support ongoing improvement.
  • Build and maintain trusting client and stakeholder relationships, ensuring project success and positioning the company for future opportunities.
