We are seeking an experienced HVAC Design Engineer –(Marine HVAC) to join our growing team at Barrier Marine Services (Canada) Ltd. in North Vancouver. The ideal candidate holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Shipbuilding, Naval Architecture, or Marine Engineering, and brings proven experience in ship design and classification, along with strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
You are a motivated and passionate design professional with a solid background in design modelling, capable of delivering high-quality engineering solutions in complex marine environments.
Barrier Marine Services supports major shipbuilding programs across Canada, delivering high-quality marine architectural, engineering and technical services. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex marine projects in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
Position OverviewHVAC Design Engineer –(Marine HVAC) will be responsible for the design, coordination, and execution of HVAC systems across all project phases, from concept to commissioning. This role includes technical leadership, regulatory compliance, client coordination, and mentoring of junior staff.

Experience:
5 years or more
- Coordinate and update HVAC 3D models using CADMATIC software
- Review design documents in accordance with Lloyd’s Register requirements
- Create, revise, and review production drawings
- Respond to technical comments and queries from clients and subcontractors
- Develop HVAC concept, basic, and detailed designs for marine projects
- Monitor project progress and prepare status reports
- Prepare HVAC system specifications and technical documentation
- Perform heat load, ventilation, noise, and pressure drop calculations
- Produce HVAC D&IDs, P&IDs, and one-line diagrams
- Develop HVAC commissioning test memos and procedures
- Review and provide technical input on chiller and heating plant calculations
- Coordinate HVAC system integration using 3D modeling software (CADMATIC)
- Ensure designs comply with client requirements and marine regulations (LR, SOLAS, etc.)
- Develop Test Procedures and Specifications (TPS)
- Manage Vendor Furnished Information (VFI), including review and integration into project documentation
- Coordinate construction, commissioning, and system optimization activities
- Liaise with clients regarding equipment selection and system performance
- Mentor and support junior HVAC designers and technicians
- Review HVAC material selections and prepare related VFI documentation
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,001.60-$ per year
