Position: Intern, Process Management (8 Months)

Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.

The Intern, Process Management is responsible for process engineering on new construction projects at Vancouver Shipyards. Under the direction of the Supervisor, Design Build – Process Management, the Intern participates in all phases of new construction design projects from a Process Engineering perspective to improve productivity and remove waste including the development of assigned analysis and projects in the areas of ship design and shipbuilding, production engineering, build strategy development, pre-production process development.

Note:
Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton, North Vancouver.

What you’ll do:

  • Plans and performs analysis in support of program pre-production strategy development including:
    Engineering and Procurement Strategy and Schedules, Pre-Production Process, MBOM creation and associated tasks and activities and supports development of ship construction schedules.

  • Plans and performs process improvements in pre-production areas.

  • Plans and performs pre-production process analysis to develop, implement, and refine new and existing productionprocesses.

  • What you’ll bring:

  • Currently pursuing a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, a technical field of study or a related discipline.
  • Ability to create process maps using various tools, including Visio, Miro, and ARIS SW.

  • Knowledge of Business Process Mapping Notation (BPMN) is an asset.

  • Committed to a high standard of safety and able to comply with all Seaspan safety policies and rules.

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

  • Knowledge of heavy industry operations with a detailed understanding of the relationship between planning, procurement, design and production.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather process requirements, capture operational details, and document workflows within Enterprise Architecture tools.

  • Ability to evaluate business processes and apply Lean methodologies to identify inefficiencies and eliminate waste is an asset.

  • Knowledge of the relationship between procurement, design, production and test operations.

  • Proficiency working with Process Mapping software.

  • Understanding of how ERP & MRP systems works and support a large manufacturing facility.

  • Proficiency establishing working relationships with stakeholders from a variety of areas including Trade Management, Engineering, Design, Procurement, Quality, Design Build, Master Scheduling, Program Controls and Estimating.

  • We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $28.00/hour.

    Start Date of Internship:
    Tuesday, September 8th, 2026.

    End Date of Internship:
    Friday, April 30th, 2027 (8-Months).
