We are seeking a Hydrogeologist to join our dynamic Water Resources Group and support a wide range of technically challenging and interesting Projects. You will contribute to the coordination and execution of field programs and associated data analysis and reporting, and work collaboratively with our large multidisciplinary team.

The ideal candidate will have a formal training in hydrogeology and will have experience with hydrogeologic and water quality field programs, data analysis and reporting. This position has considerable scope for career development and advancement, and over time, you will support or lead the training of colleagues in quantitative science-based data analysis and providing innovative solutions to complex problems.

Responsibilities
  • Support the design, coordination and implementation of hydrogeological field programs.
  • Ensure compliance with Hatfield’s Health and Safety Management Plan, the law, and client health and safety protocols.
  • Support hydrogeologic, hydrologic and water quality data collection, compilation, analyses and reporting activities.
  • Engage with multidisciplinary team members and support other technical analyses and assessments (e.g., water balances, modelling, impact assessment, environmental flow needs) and permitting activities.
  • Support ongoing data management (e.g., review of near-real-time telemetry, continuous and periodic water level, and lab data) and reporting to clients and regulatory agencies (e.g., draft technical report sections and data summaries).
  • Communicate technical information efficiently and effectively (verbal and written).
Education and Experience

The ideal candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:

  • B.Sc. or higher in sciences or engineering, with prior coursework in geology and hydrogeology.
  • Eligible for Professional registration (e.g., with EGBC or APEGA) as a geoscientist or engineer in training.
  • A minimum of one year of applicable experience.
  • Experience and interest in field work. Field work in remote locations will periodically be required.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and interest in technical / quantitative analysis.
  • Fluent verbal communication and ability to write concisely.
Other Assets/Skills
  • Ability and interest to undertake extensive fieldwork, in a range of weather conditions, including working in remote locations and on programs that may require camp stays.
  • Experience with drilling programs and complex (deep) groundwater monitoring installations.
  • Experience with groundwater sampling and hydraulic conductivity testing (e.g., packer, pump, slug tests).
  • Experience with water quality assessment, statistical analysis, and annual compliance reporting.
  • Experience with data handling and analysis. In particular, a background in Aquarius, R statistics, Python, GIS.
  • Comfortable using instrumentation and technology, and a desire to learn how to operate a variety of environmental monitoring systems such as data loggers and software packages.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and the willingness to work overtime in support of field programs.
  • A valid Canadian driver’s license for the past three years, experience driving a pickup truck and the ability to meet the requirements for our third-party automobile insurance policy.
