Position OverviewThe Recycling and Waste Center Attendant is part of a team that provides recycling options for a vast array of materials. Attendants provide direction to the general public and commercial traffic to navigate the facility safely while properly recycling or disposing of materials. The Center is open 363 days per year and requires four‑day rotating shifts (four days working and four days off).
Key Responsibilities- Provide essential recycling services and knowledge to the community.
- Under the direction of the Site Supervisor, ensure the Center meets all Metro Vancouver, regulatory, and company requirements.
- Ensure outbound solid waste and recyclable materials meet disposal/recycle facility specifications.
- Monitor and manage onsite inventories to ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
- Communicate effectively with customers, including the general public and commercial customers; this may include traffic control at the site.
- Help train newly hired personnel on operations, specifications for outbound materials, and safety procedures.
- Provide recommendations to improve efficiency, service levels, and safety.
- Work safely within a team environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Passion for the green economy and providing essential community services.
- Ability to work primarily outdoors at recycling depots or the transfer station building.
- A safe approach to all tasks and aspects of the job.
- Minimum 2‑3 years of previous experience, preferably in a customer service‑oriented environment.
- Pro‑active and willing to learn.
- Good interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience operating small mobile equipment such as a forklift is an asset but not required.
- Willingness to work shift work (day shifts only, four on and four off) and some weekends.
- Friendly, roll‑up‑your‑sleeves attitude.
- A good sense of humour, considered an asset and necessary.
