Director, Fin Tech (Finance System & Automation)
The Director, Fin Tech is a critical enabler of Finance modernization and enterprise scale. This role owns the strategy, architecture, and execution of finance systems, integrations, and automation — ensuring that financial data, workflows, and insights flow seamlessly across the organization and franchise network. As 1-800‑GOT‑JUNK? evolves toward a Product Operating Model, this leader will help shift Finance from manual, fragmented processes to a connected, technology‑enabled ecosystem.
They will partner closely with Finance, Product, and Technology leaders to ensure financial systems evolve in lockstep with new products, pricing models, payment flows, and operating rhythms.
The Director, Fin Tech combines strong financial process knowledge with systems thinking, technical fluency, and cross‑functional leadership. They bring structure to complexity, simplify workflows, and ensure Finance technology supports better decisions — not just better reporting.
HYBRID WORK ENVIRONMENT
Vancouver‑based and Toronto‑based team members work in‑office every other week (Tues–Thurs). Core attendance is required from 9 AM – 3 PM on these days to support business priorities.
What You Will Do- Finance Systems Strategy & Architecture – Own the end‑to‑end finance systems architecture, ensuring alignment across ERP, CRM, payments, FP&A, and BI platforms.
- Design scalable, resilient system landscapes that support growth, product expansion, and franchise complexity.
- Act as the enterprise steward of how financial data moves, connects, and is consumed.
- Automation & Process Modernization – Lead the roadmap to automate and optimize core finance processes, including close, AR/AP, forecasting, and reporting.
- Reduce manual effort and operational risk by simplifying workflows and eliminating redundant processes.
- Ensure automation efforts balance efficiency, control, and business usability.
- Integration & Data Flow Enablement – Lead the design and delivery of system integrations using integration platforms and native APIs.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and reliable data flows between finance, product, and operational systems.
- Establish data governance principles that support a single source of truth and enterprise confidence in financial data.
- Product & Technology Partnership – Partner with Product and Technology teams to ensure finance systems support new products, pricing models, and customer journeys.
- Translate financial requirements into system capabilities early in the product lifecycle.
- Support experimentation and iteration while maintaining financial discipline and controls.
- Franchise & Field Enablement – Collaborate with franchise partners and field teams to design integrations and tools that simplify their financial workflows.
- Ensure finance systems scale across the franchise network while respecting local realities and adoption needs.
- Act as a bridge between enterprise systems and on‑the‑ground execution.
- Leadership, Delivery & Governance – Lead and develop a small Fin Tech team and vendor ecosystem.
- Set clear priorities, manage dependencies, and drive delivery with accountability.
- Establish governance for finance systems changes, enhancements, and adoption.
- 8–12 years’ experience leading finance systems, ERP, or financial automation in complex or growing environments.
- Proven experience modernizing finance workflows through systems, integrations, automation, and cloud data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Amazon Redshift). Knowledge and experience with Netsuite and iPaaS is a must.
- Strong understanding of financial operations and processes (close, AR/AP, forecasting, reporting) and the ability to translate finance needs into scalable systems and data solutions.
- Experience partnering across Finance, Product, and Technology to deliver data‑driven enterprise outcomes.
- Systems thinking mindset—able to design for scale, flexibility, and future‑state needs.
- Comfort operating in ambiguous environments, translating evolving business requirements into clear technical solutions.
