SECHELT, BC | ON-SITE | RELOCATION REQUIRED

Tsain-Ko Group of Companies is the parent company of the shíshálh Nation’s economic development arm and is comprised of a number of corporations and limited partnerships involved in carrying out its primary economic functions.

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Senior Accountant is tasked with maintaining journals, ledgers, and intricate financial reports, as well as preparing associated budgets, financial statements, and analytical reports. The role also involves providing support to various finance functions within Tsain-Ko.

THE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with management reporting and new reporting structures, as required.
  • Enforce and improve internal controls, guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, enforcing policies and procedures and financial controls.
  • Assist in year-end planning, audit preparation, schedules, working papers and reconciliations.
  • Assist with the reconciliation of principal asset and liability accounts regularly and at year-end.
  • Prepare budgets by establishing schedules and consolidating financial data.
  • Achieve budget objectives by analyzing variances actions.
  • Review operating budgets to examine trends affecting budget needs.
  • Monthly reconciliation of general ledger, sub-ledger and other accounts.
  • Ensures accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses.
  • Prepares journal entries required to balance or reconcile accounts.
  • Summarize budgets, prepare reports, and make recommendations to improve efficiency.
  • Analyze operating budgets to identify trends, report findings and provide recommendations.
  • Assist other staff members in supporting finance activities and functions within the various departments, including the implementation of best financial practices as required.
  • Assist in migrating entities off legacy accounting software and finance-related projects.
  • Ensure contracts are properly administrated in accordance with contract terms.
  • Undertake additional tasks within the scope of the position as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • A graduate of a University or College program with a specialization in finance and accounting.
  • At least three (03) years’ experience in accounting or auditing areas in a Canadian context.
  • Extensive knowledge in accounting and computers skills, a team player to perform a full range of accounting and related activities as necessary.
  • Good understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices including International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Microsoft Office Skills (Word – Basic, Excel – Advanced and PowerPoint – Basic).
  • Working knowledge with Sage, Net Suite, Yooz, Business Vision or similar accounting software.
  • Working towards CPA Qualification is an asset.
  • Previous experience working with a BC First Nations community or related organization is an asset.

    Terms:

    Full-Time, Permanent, Monday through Friday, 37.5-hour work week.
  • Salary and Perks: A base salary ranging from $70,000 to $75,000, contingent on qualifications.
