About the Role

This challenging role involves research (identifying and gathering pertinent data), analysis, reporting and auditing of financial transactions, assessment data and property specific information in relation to municipal property taxation and collections. You will review tax records for accuracy and completeness; prepare a variety of financial reports, statements and conduct special analyses utilizing assessment data and property record information. Your ability to source information, verify its origin and analyse its implications using various technologies will assist in performing exploratory projects.

This position will participate with management in determining that taxation strategies are in compliance with policies, procedures and legislation. You will also supervise a clerical position performing related work and provide assistance to taxpayers as requested. Considerable independent judgement and action are exercised in the work while unusual problems and policy matters are discussed with your manager. As a highly responsible position your innovative and creative thinking skills will be utilized to attain success in this role.

The

successful candidate will have:
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including modern reporting procedures
  • Considerable knowledge of property taxation and utility accounting functions, including reconciliation and collections operations, accounts receivable procedures, and related software applications inclusive for research capabilities
  • The ability to identify and gather pertinent data relating to the work using a variety of software applications
  • Considerable knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies, bylaws and legislation governing the work
  • The ability to carry out analyses and studies related to the work, participate in the review of tax strategies, and prepare technical reports outlining findings and conclusions
  • The ability to effectively coordinate and participate in the preparation of annual tax and utility billings and ensure adherence to deadlines
  • The ability to supervise and communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts
Qualifications

Professional accounting designation (CPA) plus some related experience in financial reconciliation and researching, reviewing and applying pertinent legislation, bylaws and policies, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Salary:
The pay range for this unionized position is $42.45 to $50.13 per hour (2024 rates)

Hours of Work: 35-hour work week (Compressed work schedule available)
