Position: Intern, Digital Ship Analytics (8 Months)
Job Description  Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Seaspan Shipyards is leading the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.
About the Role  As Intern, Digital Ship Analytics, you will support the development of scalable digital twin platforms that integrate real-time sensor data, 3D models, and advanced visualization technologies to enhance vessel performance and availability. You will work alongside engineers at Vancouver Shipyards to assist with data-driven initiatives across R&D, new vessel construction, and in-service support. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, collaborative problem-solver passionate about leveraging data science and emerging technologies to drive innovation and deliver practical, user-focused solutions in a dynamic marine environment.

Note:

This position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.
What You'll Do   Develop, test, and maintain data pipelines in collaboration with the data team to build and optimize data flow for machine learning applications.
Design, test, and implement machine learning models using Python and relevant libraries to solve real-world problems and improve decision-making processes.
Perform exploratory data analysis, clean and preprocess data, and identify key features that enhance model performance and accuracy.
Prepare comprehensive reports and visualizations to communicate data-driven insights, model performance, and project outcomes to technical and non-technical audiences. Assist in creating presentations and maintaining proper documentation for stakeholders.
What You'll Bring   Enrollment in a third or later year of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related degree.
Demonstrated use of Python and common data science libraries such as Pandas, Num Py, Seaborn, and Matplotlib.
Experience in machine learning and data mining with libraries such as Scikit-learn and XGBoost; experience with Tensor Flow or PyTorch is a plus.
Technical knowledge and engineering skills demonstrated through multiple class projects or co-op terms.
Above-average analytical skills and ability to learn quickly.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft products including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Experience with SQL and other database management tools.
Effective communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Strong problem-solving abilities that support business-oriented solution development.
Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making skills consistent with the essential job functions.
Innate curiosity and enthusiasm for exploring and developing modern technologies and processes.

Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week.
Hourly rate: $28.00/hour.

Friday, April 30, 2027 (8 months).
