PURPOSE

To provide vehicle registration, licensing, and insurance services to customers through phone, or in person for walk in customers.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge/Technical Skills

-of the relevant acts and regulations as they pertain to vehicle registration, licensing and insurance in North America

-of the relevant manuals, guidelines and other reference materials as they pertain to vehicle registration, licensing and insurance

-of the relevant department and corporate databases, applications and systems to access and interpret information and formulate responses

-of department and corporate business functions, products and services to answer inquiries, refer calls or seek information

-of the operation of personal computers and the relevant software applications

Analytical/Problem Solving Skills

-to determine whether requirements for vehicle licensing/registration have been met

-to assess the validity and acceptability of standard identification

-to determine appropriate action for customers and agents in situations where insurance requirements do not fall within the standards

-to determine the appropriate payment methods to be offered to customers and to process payments

-to perform calculations and payments and balancing cash

Communication/Interpersonal Skills

-to explain technical information and complex policies and procedures to customers in understandable terms

-to deal with upset or angry customers

-to solicit information from customers for problem diagnosis and solutions

Organizational Skills

-to organize workload in a fast paced, high volume environment

-to adapt to changing demands and schedules

Physical/Concentration Skills

-to maintain audio and mental concentration when listening to customers and referring to manuals to create rate information, resolve problems and provide information

-to maintain visual and mental concentration when balancing cash and taking inventory

-to occasionally lift and carry boxes of various weights

-to sit for prolonged periods while using a telephone headset and computer

-to maintain mental and visual concentration while searching computer database files and entering information while responding to customers either over the phone or in person

Must meet the provincially legislated requirements of the Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA).

The above requirements would typically be met through high school graduation, plus completion of courses leading to the CAIB designation, and a few years of experience as an insurance broker where knowledge of insurance and Autoplan procedures has been gained.

Technical Requirements & Background

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Information and Enquiries

Provides customers with vehicle licensing, registration and insurance policy information requested through phone, mail, fax and in person. Explains ratings, policy coverage and associated risks, application procedures, exclusions, and other terms and conditions. Provide guidance and advice to customers by presenting options available.

Provides Autoplan services to customers, including phone-in,in person appointments walk-in , fleet and out-of-province customers.

Process renewals, policy changes, binders, storage, rental vehicle policies and debt payments according to departmental guidelines, policies and procedures. Support fleet underwriting and account services by processing payments to various different policy types. Balances payments and prepares bank deposits when required

Batch Renewals

Batches and processes fleet renewals. Balances fleet transactions, maintains fleet ledger accounts which includes cheque requisition for deposit to general ledger accounts and month end reports for fleet administrators. Advises and updates fleet operators of…
