The West Vancouver Engineering & Transportation Department requires a permanent full-time Utility Worker to perform duties related to the operation and maintenance of the District’s potable water system. Reporting to the Water Utility Supervisor, the successful applicant will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of all distribution system components and equipment.
Applicants must possess and retain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence, have graduated from secondary school and possess the following skills and abilities:
· Knowledge and understanding of the methods, materials and equipment used in maintaining and repairing components of a potable water system;
· Knowledge of the precautions necessary to ensure public safety and prevent damage to public property;
· Ability to exercise good judgment and deal with the public appropriately;
· Ability to liaise effectively with District Utilities, Finance and Support staff in providing meter related information;
· Ability to keep maintenance records and prepare detailed reports;
· Ability to perform all other duties as required; and
· Physical strength to perform duties in all types of weather conditions.
Preference will be given to applicants with a minimum 3 years of Utilities Construction and/or Maintenance experience as well as to those who have completed courses and hold current certifications for the following items as appropriate:
Water Distribution System Operator Level 1 Certification or higher (EOCP);
Process Control and SCADA Fundamentals;
Chlorine Handling (BCWWA).
