Job SummaryCome work as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Forensic/Sexual Assault Nursing Services with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)! Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for an RN to join the Emergency Unit at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, BC.
Key Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive forensic nursing care to patients triaged to Forensic and/or Sexual Assault Nursing services within a patient and family‑centred framework and continuum‑based care model, in accordance with established standards of professional practice and the vision, values and policies of the organization.
Education & Experience
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Completion of recognized Sexual Assault/Forensic Nurse Examiner coursework.
- Two years’ recent and related nursing experience in an acute or public health setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, and safety interventions.
- Ability to demonstrate therapeutic interviewing and communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, the public, medical staff, and interprofessional team members via verbal, written, and electronic means.
- Knowledge of contraceptive management and sexually transmitted infections.
- Ability to promote person‑centered care that demonstrates empathy, sensitivity to diverse cultures, and patient advocacy.
- Proficiency working with minimal supervision.
- Collaborative skills with health and legal professionals.
- Organizational and prioritization of patient care.
- Use of evidence‑based research to support nursing decisions.
- Operational use of related equipment and computer applications.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
