Job SummaryWorking within the vision and values of Vancouver Coastal Health and in accordance with the organizational policies and processes, the Relational Security Officer establishes a supportive presence at healthcare sites to emphasize, maintain, and ensure security of persons and property in accordance with established policies and procedures. Reporting to the Manager, Safety & Prevention and working under general supervision, the Relational Security Officer provides a proactive approach to managing potential violence and aggression within the healthcare setting, ensuring a protected and healthy environment for patients, staff and visitors.
ResponsibilitiesThe Relational Security Officer works as part of a Relational Security Team that promotes trauma‑informed interventions, practices and safety & prevention services. The officer applies Indigenous cultural safety, anti‑racism, and diversity, equity and inclusion principles in all practices while maintaining security of persons and property, collaborating with the Manager of Safety & Prevention and other health care workers, and proactively managing potential violence and aggression.
Qualifications- BC Security Guard License and OFA Level II Certification.
- Certification of Training Completion in Advanced Security Training and successful completion of the Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum.
- One year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to deal with others effectively, organize work, and operate related equipment.
Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check. As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers in publicly‑funded facilities must report past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections, and new hires must provide this information during onboarding.
