ABOUT YOU

We are currently looking for enthusiastic and energetic individuals to join our Aquatics team. You are a team player committed to community. You are courteous and effective with the public and enjoy working with a diverse group of people. You ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all customers.
Your strong communication skills will help you when instructing aquatic programs to all ages and special community groups. You are able to provide safety and supervision for all swimmers and first aid when required.
You will provide leadership in assisting with the organization and direction of instructional and recreational aquatic programs and activities for all age levels. You will supervise and participate in the work of aquatic staff who instructs swimming lessons, lifeguards, and perform operational and maintenance work. You are reliable, responsive to customer needs, and excellent at building relationships.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
Principles of Healthy Child Development would be an asset.
In addition to the required certifications listed above, you have sound knowledge of the theory and practice of lifesaving, artificial respiration and first aid. Sound knowledge of teaching methods and group leadership techniques emphasizing instruction in water safety and aquatic skills is preferred. Working knowledge of pool chemistry, water filtration, chlorination, heating and related pool equipment and procedures. Ability to display sound aquatic skills and to instruct in these skills at standards set by relevant authorities.
Completion of the 12th grade, supplemented by courses in lifesaving aquatics, instruction and pool operation and maintenance, plus sound related experience including some supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All employees will be available to work at any North Vancouver Recreation & Culture location and are required to submit a Police Information Check as a condition of employment.
A comprehensive benefit package includes enrolment into group life insurance, extended health, dental benefits, the Municipal Pension Plan upon eligibility, and the option of participating in the Earned Days Off program. The pay for this unionized regular full-time position starts at Step 1, $30.70 per hour and ranges to $36.08 per hour (2024 rates), plus a comprehensive benefit package. This is a regular full-time position, working 37.5 hours per week including weekends, days or evenings based on operational needs.
