The District of West Van couver Engineering Construction Department has an exciting opportunity for a Replacement Temporary Full-Time Equipment Operator II position to perform street sweeping tasks with a mechanical street sweeper for approximately 11 months. The Equipment Operator II will be operating a large vehicle with a wide variety of controls and devices, in congested traffic and busy pedestrian areas and performing daily trip equipment inspections and submit daily inspection reports.
The Equipment Operator II will also be responsible for cleaning and making service repairs to sweeper as required.
The successful candidate will have:
- Knowledge of the rules of safe operation and the precautions to be taken to avoid accidents or machine damage in the operation of this equipment
- Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions
- Some knowledge of the methods, practices and tools used in servicing and making adjustments to such equipment
- Ability to exercise independent judgment in the technical functions involved in the work
- Some experience or training in the operation of a street sweeper
- Possess a valid Class 5 with Air Brake endorsement or Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Brake endorsement issued by the Province of British Columbia.
- Performing other duties as required.
The preferred candidate has completed senior secondary school and have experience in the operation of various equipment as applied to general roads and boulevard construction and maintenance work will be an asset. The successful candidates will have mechanical aptitude along with adequate physical stamina to perform assigned duties in all types of weather.

Hours of Work:
40 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)
Rate of Pay:
$36.79 per hour (2025 rate) plus 14% in lieu of benefits
