At NY Highways, you'll train as a Vehicle Technician while earning a salary, gaining real‑world experience from day one in a busy workshop environment. You'll learn how to maintain and repair a wide range of vehicles that help keep North Yorkshire moving.
What you'll be doingAs an Apprentice Vehicle Technician, you'll build practical skills while working alongside experienced technicians. Your day‑to‑day tasks will include:
- Carrying out vehicle servicing and safety checks
- Assisting with MOT inspections and identifying wear and tear
- Repairing and replacing engine and vehicle components
- Using diagnostic tools to identify faults
- Preparing vehicles for maintenance and ensuring they meet safety standards
- Following health and safety procedures in a workshop environment

QualificationsWe're looking for motivated individuals who are keen to start their career. You should have:
- An interest in cars, vans or mechanical work and how things work
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Good attention to detail
- Ability to work well as part of a team
- A problem‑solving mindset, aged 16 or over
- GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above), or willingness to achieve this
- A full UK driving licence, or working towards it
At NY Highways, we play a key role in maintaining and improving North Yorkshire's road network of nearly 5,800 miles. As part of our team, you'll be contributing to essential services that support communities across the county, all while building valuable skills for your future.
You'll gain experience working on a wide range of vehicles, developing both mechanical and problem‑solving skills. By the end of your apprenticeship, you'll have the skills and confidence to work independently as a qualified technician. Earn while you learn – gain a Level 3 qualification whilst getting paid.
