Are you an experienced Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant or SEN Support Worker who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning?
The Empowering Learning group is currently recruiting for a number of SEN Learning Support Assistant opportunities across Northallerton, working with welcoming and supportive schools that are looking for committed staff to join their teams.
These roles are ideal for someone who thrives on building strong relationships with pupils and wants to play an important part in their academic, social and emotional development.
Whether you have extensive school experience or have developed your skills supporting young people in another setting, we'd love to hear from you.
The Role
As an SEN Learning Support Assistant, you could be supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including:
Autism / ASD
ADHD
SEMH
Communication and interaction needs
Behavioural needs
Complex learning needs
Non-verbal communication
EHCP requirements
Social and emotional needs
Depending on the setting, your role may include:
Providing dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.
Supporting pupils within lessons and small-group activities.
Helping pupils access and engage with their learning.
Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
Developing pupils' confidence, independence and social skills.
Adapting activities to meet individual needs.
Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams.
Building a consistent, positive and trusting relationship with the pupil.
What We're Looking For
We are keen to hear from candidates who have:
Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN.
A patient, nurturing and resilient approach.
The ability to build positive relationships with pupils.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Confidence supporting challenging or complex behaviours.
The ability to remain calm and consistent in difficult situations.
A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not essential.
Team Teach training is desirable, but training can be discussed where appropriate.
An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
Experience from care, youth work, residential settings, support work or similar environments will also be considered.
