We are looking for a PNC Bureau & DVLA Data Officer to join our Criminal Justice team. This is a vital role supporting operational policing through the accurate creation, maintenance and review of records on the Police National Computer (PNC) and Law Enforcement Data Service (LEDS).

Working within the PNC Bureau, you will be responsible for updating and managing information relating to stolen vehicles and property, wanted and missing persons, vehicles of interest and court orders. The information you record and maintain will directly support investigations, safeguarding activity and criminal justice processes. You’ll also act as the main contact for DVLA driver and vehicle enquiries, using national and local systems to identify tasks, clarify information, and support others.

Accuracy, integrity and attention to detail are essential, as the role involves handling sensitive information and ensuring records are updated correctly and promptly.

For internal applicants, the fixed-term vacancy will be offered as a secondment opportunity for approx. 12 months. Successful applicants appointed on a secondment basis will undertake the role on the terms, conditions and salary associated with the post as advertised and will return to their substantive role at the end of the secondment period.

Internal applicants interested in the secondment opportunity must obtain approval from their current line manager before submitting an application and should ensure their manager can support their release for the duration of the secondment if they are successful.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Create, review and update records on the Police National Computer (PNC) and Law Enforcement Data Service (LEDS).
  • Interrogate internal and external databases to identify information required for accurate and timely PNC updates.
  • Maintain records relating to stolen vehicles, stolen property, wanted and missing persons, vehicles of interest and court orders.
  • Ensure all information submitted to the PNC is complete, accurate and compliant with national standards and force procedures.
  • Share information appropriately and lawfully in accordance with data protection legislation, information sharing agreements and operational requirements.
  • Liaise with police officers, police staff, criminal justice partners, other police forces and external agencies to verify and clarify information.
  • Support effective record management by updating local systems and maintaining audit trails.
  • Carry out quality assurance checks and identify discrepancies to ensure information remains accurate.
  • Develop and maintain specialist knowledge of PNC processes, policies and procedures.
  • Support colleagues through knowledge sharing and assisting with training and development.
  • Participate in meetings, projects and continuous improvement activities as required.

Skills and Experience:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail in written and data-entry work.
  • Strong IT skills, including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • The ability to analyse, interpret and evaluate information from a variety of sources.
  • Experience or awareness of data input and record maintenance requirements.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage competing and changing priorities.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • A flexible and proactive approach to work.
  • A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information appropriately.
