Job Description 1 - 2 Month Contract With A local AuthorityRole Purpose
To provide a comprehensive, high-quality occupational health case management service, delivering evidence-based clinical advice to managers and employees that supports attendance, wellbeing, and safe, sustainable return to work.
The postholder will manage their own caseload with significant autonomy, working to the highest clinical and professional standards while contributing to positive organisational outcomes through practical, solution-focused advice.
Key ResponsibilitiesDeliver effective occupational health case management including management referrals, sickness absence reviews, and return-to-work assessments.
Provide clear, objective, and practical written reports with evidence-based recommendations.
Advise managers on fitness for work, workplace adjustments, rehabilitation plans, and risk management.
Support early intervention and proactive approaches to prevent long-term absence.
Ensure advice is outcome-focused and supports effective case resolution.
Maintain professional registration and practise in line with NMC and Faculty of Occupational Medicine guidance.
Deliver services in accordance with clinical governance frameworks and Council policies.
Undertake health surveillance and health promotion activity as required.
Escalate complex cases appropriately to the Senior OH Adviser – Clinical Manager.
Build effective working relationships with managers, HR, trade unions, and employees.
Communicate complex clinical information clearly and sensitively.
Provide advice that balances employee wellbeing with operational requirements.
Manage and prioritise a personal caseload efficiently.
Meet service-level expectations for quality and timeliness.
Contribute to continuous service improvement initiatives.
Maintain accurate, confidential clinical records in line with GDPR and professional standards.
RequirementsRecognised Occupational Health qualification (Degree/Diploma).
Proven experience in occupational health case management.
Demonstrable ability to manage an autonomous caseload.
Experience providing clear, defensible, and practical management reports.
Strong understanding of the impact of occupational health advice on operational outcomes.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Customer-focused, performance-driven, and solution-oriented approach.
Strong clinical reasoning and decision-making skills.
Ability to work independently and flexibly in a hybrid environment.
High professional standards and attention to detail.
Experience working within public sector or local authority settings.
