Overview
The Program in Jewish Studies at Smith College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with expertise in Jews of the Islamic World, to begin July 1, 2026.

Responsibilities- Teach a four-course load per year, including broad survey courses and advanced courses related to the candidate’s field of specialization.
- Engage actively with diverse students across the liberal arts and provide interdisciplinary offerings that enhance understanding of Jewish experiences and identities globally beyond the West.
- Aim to maintain an active research agenda and contribute to the program through teaching, mentoring, and service.
- Ph.D. in Jewish Studies or another relevant field is expected by the time of appointment.
- Expertise in Jews of the Islamic World.
- Commitment to undergraduate teaching and innovative scholarship.
- Candidates from groups under-represented in Jewish Studies are encouraged to apply.
Salary for newly-hired assistant professors with a terminal degree beginning the first year of the tenure clock is typically between $92,000 and $96,000. Salary decisions depend on teaching and work experience, market factors, and internal peer equity.
