Job Title

Medical Assistant – Cardiology (40-hour, Full-time)

The Medical Group delivers high quality, low cost, innovative community-based ambulatory care across locations in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine, including primary care, specialty care, behavioral and mental health, urgent care, outpatient surgery and endoscopy, imaging, cardiac testing, and infusion.

The practice will deliver fully integrated cardiac evaluation and treatment, including cardiac and vascular intervention, electrophysiology, heart failure management, valvular heart disease, peripheral artery disease, and a Congestive Heart Failure Clinic. The practice is located on the 3rd floor of Cooley Dickinson’s Atwood Health Center at 22 Atwood Drive in Northampton, MA. We are seeking a 40-hour Full-time Medical Assistant to support our Cardiology practice onsite Monday–Friday.

Shifts are within 8:00 am–5:00 pm and flexible within that window.

Job Summary

The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.

Essential Functions
  • Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
  • Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, interview patients to obtain medical information, measure vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient’s medical record.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, and organize educational materials to reinforce patient education.
  • Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
  • Maintain inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
  • Provide immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
  • Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
Qualifications

Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent required or Associate's Degree;
Medical Assisting preferred.

Licenses and Credentials

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. Certified Medical Assistant (National Certification) preferred.

Experience

Direct Medical Assistant experience or medical field work 1–2 years required.
