Semi-Senior Accountant | Northampton | Daventry | Cottons Group

Cottons Group is an established and ambitious accountancy practice entering an exciting period of growth and evolution
. With expanding offices, growing teams and continued investment across the Group, they’re creating some genuinely exciting career opportunities across the Midlands.

Cottons has partnered with Balanced Hiring to manage recruitment across the Group — with a focus on finding great people, creating meaningful career paths and building the teams that will support their next stage of growth.

These are great opportunities if you're ready to move beyond task-based work and start building their own client relationships, technical expertise, and advisory skills.

What you'll be doing:
  • Preparing statutory accounts for a varied client portfolio, ready for senior review
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns
  • Preparing personal tax returns
  • Bookkeeping across a range of clients
  • Preparing management accounts
  • Supporting senior staff on ad-hoc assignments and client work
  • Mentoring and supporting trainee staff
  • Liaising directly with clients to gather information and resolve queries
Where this role can take you:

This isn't a standing-still role. Over time you'll take on your own client relationships, greater responsibility for planning and delivering assignments, and a more advisory-focused role — backed by real investment in your technical development.

What we're looking for:
  • AAT qualified, or studying towards ACA/ACCA (or equivalent)
  • Solid grounding in accounts preparation and bookkeeping
  • Experience with VAT and personal tax compliance
  • Comfortable with accounting software such as Xero, Quick Books, or Sage
  • Strong attention to detail, organisation, and communication skills
  • A team player who takes ownership of their work
Nice to have:
  • Experience preparing management accounts
  • Previous experience mentoring or supporting trainees
  • Strong workload and deadline management
What's on offer:
  • Structured progression path with genuine client-facing responsibility
  • Collaborative, learning-focused team culture
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays
