Fancy joining one of Cornwall's success stories? This is a brilliant opportunity to join a growing, well regarded business with a great team culture, in a role where you can make a real difference.
We're looking for a Financial Accountant to join an established and successful business in the property sector. It's a varied, hands on position with a strong focus on management accounts, financial reporting and improving processes, alongside the day to day running of the finance function.
The role is initially offered on a 6 to 9-month contract, with the potential for an extension or a permanent position. Full time and part time applications will be considered, and the role is office based five days a week.
What's involved?Reporting to the Head of Finance, you'll take ownership of the monthly management accounts, providing meaningful commentary and KPIs to help the business understand its financial performance.
You'll also be involved in:
- Preparing monthly management accounts, including accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Investigating variances and supporting budgeting, forecasting and year end processes.
- Preparing VAT returns and overseeing monthly payroll.
- Managing supplier payments and property owner payments.
- Reviewing costs and identifying opportunities to improve financial performance.
- Improving financial reporting, spreadsheets and processes.
- Supporting the Head of Finance with projects and wider business improvements.
As part of a hands-on finance team, you'll also provide operational support when needed. This could include bank reconciliations, posting transactions in Sage 50, purchase ledger duties, supplier statement reconciliations, property owner recharges and reports, security deposit refunds and resolving queries. You'll also help ensure client funds are correctly reconciled between the accounting and booking systems.
It's a varied role that offers the chance to take responsibility for your own work while remaining involved in the wider finance function.
What are we looking for? You’ll ideally be AAT Level 4 qualified, or have equivalent experience, with a solid background in finance and accounts. Around five years’ relevant experience would be beneficial, particularly if you’ve been involved in preparing management accounts and understand the importance of accurate reporting and reconciliations.
You’ll be comfortable working with figures, investigating discrepancies and taking ownership of problems rather than simply passing them on. Strong Excel skills, good attention to detail and an organised approach are important, as is the confidence to learn new systems and work with colleagues across the business.
Experience with Sage 50 would be useful but not essential. Applications from both practice and industry backgrounds are welcome.
