Pastoral Support Assistant - Northampton

Full-Time Position | ASAP Start | Potential for Permanent Appointment

This is a full-time role with the strong potential to become permanent for the right individual. The school is seeking a caring, motivated and resilient Pastoral Support Assistant who can work closely with students, staff, and families to promote positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and engagement in learning. You will play a key part in the pastoral team, helping to create a safe, supportive and encouraging environment where every student feels valued.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Providing day-to-day pastoral support to students across the school

  • Building positive, trusting relationships with young people who may require emotional or behavioural support

  • Supporting the pastoral manager and safeguarding leads in responding to concerns

  • Monitoring attendance, punctuality, behaviour data and student wellbeing indicators

  • Supervising students during non-teaching times, including break and lunch duties

  • Liaising with teachers, parents/carers and external agencies where necessary

  • Helping to implement behaviour strategies, restorative approaches, and targeted interventions

  • Supporting students in managing conflict, developing resilience and improving engagement

The Ideal Candidate Will:
  • Have experience working with young people in a school, youth work, social care or similar support setting

  • Be calm, empathetic and able to remain professional in challenging situations

  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Be organised, proactive and committed to safeguarding and student wellbeing

  • Be able to work effectively as part of a caring and dynamic pastoral team

  • Show patience, understanding and a genuine desire to help students succeed
