Position: Full Time | Permanent
Start Date: August 2026
Salary: £24,000 per annum before the deduction of tax and National Insurance
Working Hours: 35 working hours per week; 8.00 am to 4.00 pm with one-hour unpaid lunch break;
Paid over 52 weeks
Holiday Entitlement: 13 weeks paid holiday annually
RoleA Learning Behaviour Mentor is required at Overstone Park Independent Therapeutic School in Northampton on a permanent basis. To work in the Preparatory department with pupils in Key Stages 1 and 2.
Job DetailsThe Behaviour Support Learning Mentor will provide a complementary service to teachers and other staff, addressing the needs of children who require assistance in overcoming barriers to learning in order to achieve their full potential, or accessing the curriculum.
The Behaviour Support Learning Mentor will work with a range of pupils, but give priority to those who need the most help, especially those experiencing multiple disadvantages, including:
- Children with special or medical needs
- Challenging behaviour
- Children with a statement of special educational needs
The Behaviour Support Learning Mentor will be education-based but will have a wider remit, including working with families and the wider community.
Core PurposeWorking with pupils’ additional needs and behaviour has a significant impact on their attainment. To support the ethos of the school. To improve progress and achievement by helping to minimise barriers to learning and maximise pupil participation.
Qualifications- Qualification at Level 3 in childcare or Health and Social Care.
- Training is offered.
- Experience:
Three years of working with children or within the care sector.
An independent Therapeutic school registered with DFE and ISI for boys and girls aged 4 to 18 years.

InformationFor Applicants
All applicants for all posts will be provided with:
- A job description outlining the duties of the post, including safeguarding responsibilities.
- A person specification which will include a specific reference to suitability to work with children.
- An application form, which all applicants for employment will be required to complete, containing questions about their academic and full employment history and their suitability for the role (in addition, all applicants are required to account for any gaps or discrepancies in employment history).
References will be requested at the selection stage directly from the referee. They will be asked:
- The referee’s relationship with the candidate.
- Details of the applicant’s current post and period of employment.
- Performance history and conduct.
- Any disciplinary action.
- Whether the referee has any reservations as to the candidate’s suitability to work with children. If so, we will ask for specific details of the concerns and the reasons why the referee believes the candidate may be unsuitable to work with children.
At least one member of each interview panel will have completed Safer Recruitment Training. The selection process for every post will include an exploration of the candidate’s understanding of child safeguarding issues.
Pre-Employment ChecksAll staff will require an enhanced DBS. Prohibition and Overseas checks will also be conducted. All statutory checks will be conducted.
