Role Overview

We are seeking applications for an assistant educational psychologist post. This role offers the opportunity to gain valuable experience in educational psychology practice and support professional development. Assistant EPs contribute to improving outcomes for children, young people, and their families.

Responsibilities
  • Support educational psychologists in the delivery of core and traded services, including early intervention work in schools, early years, and other settings.
  • Assist with assessments and deliver direct work to children and young people, including longer‑term therapeutic interventions.
  • Help implement PATHS and adult circles, and deliver bespoke training and coaching sessions.
  • Provide psychological advice during Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments.
  • Participate in early intervention initiatives such as the ELSA programme, MeLSA, TAMHS, and the EBSA initiative.
  • Engage in research and evaluation for the service.
Qualifications
  • A good degree in psychology.
  • Successful experience working with children and young people, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A commitment to improving the life chances of others, especially vulnerable or marginalised groups.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with professionals across the system.
  • Motivation to pursue doctoral training to qualify as an educational psychologist.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and therefore requires an enhanced DBS certificate, as well as a Children and Adults Barred List check. West Northamptonshire Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
