Assistant Principal (Inclusion)

  • Act as SENDCo for the academy, delivering SEND across the school and completing all statutory requirements.
  • Play a leading role in the school improvement and school self‑evaluation planning process.
  • Manage appropriate resources for Special Needs and Learning Support, ensuring they are used efficiently, effectively and safely.
  • Develop curriculum resources to provide students identified as having SEND or vulnerabilities with the required levels of support in classroom learning and intervention sessions.
  • Support staff involved in Special Needs and Disability and Learning Support with guidance, challenge, information and development needed to sustain motivation and secure learning improvement.
  • Maintain and update Inclusion and Provision maps.
  • Ensure staff are kept informed of each student’s SEND profile.
  • Plan and deliver professional development and support across the school.
  • Use Student Profiles to set subject‑specific targets and match work to students’ needs.
  • Analyse data to identify pupils who are seriously under‑achieving and create effective plans of action to support them.
  • Provide guidance to staff on appropriate teaching and learning methods for diverse learners.
  • Liaise with parents/carers/external agencies to inform them of progress and specifics of the SEND provision for their child.
  • Keep accurate, professional and detailed records of meetings and discussions with parents and external agencies.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver learning activities to individuals, small groups and/or classes, modifying and adapting activities as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Principal and the Local Governing Body to establish and implement an ambitious vision and ethos for the school’s future.
  • Manage school resources in partnership with the Principal.
  • Devise, implement and monitor action plans and policy developments.
  • Lead by example, motivating and working with colleagues, and implementing change initiatives.
  • Lead the development and delivery of training and support for staff.
  • Lead the development and review of all aspects of the curriculum, including planning, recording, reporting, assessment for learning and design of a creative and appropriate curriculum for all pupils.
  • Support the Principal in strategic planning, formulation of policy and delivery of strategy, ensuring that management decisions are implemented.
  • Monitor, evaluate and challenge the quality of teaching and learning across the school, conducting lesson observations and supporting teachers where necessary.
  • Oversee the pastoral team, including the Family Worker, Learning Mentor and teaching support staff.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people within the school, liaising with external agencies where needed.
