School Sport and Community Activator; South

The School Sport and Community Activator will work across a designated group of DRET academies to increase participation in sport and physical activity through the direct delivery and organisation of high-quality sporting opportunities.

This is a practical, delivery-focused role, with the postholder spending a significant proportion of their working week directly with pupils through lunchtime activity, after-school clubs, targeted programmes, competition, festival support and community sport.

Working under the direction of the Head of Primary Physical Education and Sport and alongside Primary School Sports Development Officer, the Activator will help increase high-quality sporting opportunities for pupils.

A key element of the role will be supporting the development and delivery of community sport using DRET academies as local sporting hubs. This will include evening sessions hosted at primary or secondary academies or other appropriate sites, providing additional opportunities for pupils from DRET primary academies across the surrounding area and local community too.

The postholder may directly lead these sessions using their own coaching qualifications, experience and sporting specialisms or work alongside commissioned coaches, sports clubs and external providers. Where external delivery is used, the Activator will provide a consistent DRET presence, adding capacity to the session and supporting pupil engagement, safeguarding, registration and the monitoring of participation.

Relevant sport coaching qualification or significant demonstrable experience of delivering sport and physical activity

Experience of coaching or delivering activities to group of children or young people

Ability and willingness to travel between academies and delivering venues
