Overview
Milton Keynes infrastructure is undergoing major maintenance and capital improvement projects, including drainage schemes, highway and junction improvements, public realm upgrades, and safety and traffic management initiatives.
Role SummaryAs a Quantity Surveyor on Major Projects, you will collaborate closely with the Commercial Manager and the Major Projects team to manage the commercial and contractual aspects of the assigned works area under the NEC 4 (Options A, C &
E) contract.
- Manage subcontract accounts proactively to ensure timely issue of payment notifications and agreement of final accounts.
- Apply method‑of‑measurement principles to accurately quantify works from as‑built information and site records.
- Price works and Compensation Events using first‑principles approaches.
- Attend progress and commercial meetings with clients, supply‑chain partners, and RIS colleagues.
- Collaborate with operations and external supply chain to provide evidence for valuations and resolve client queries.
- Identify and manage risks and opportunities throughout the contract lifecycle in partnership with the commercial team.
- Administer NEC 4 TSC contracts, including options A, C, and E, using CEMAR.
- Minimum HND/HNC in Quantity Surveying or Civil Engineering (experience and time served considered).
- At least 5 years of construction industry experience on major projects valued between £500 k and £5 m.
- Experience managing valuations, payment applications, and variations.
- Proficiency in pricing works using first‑principles.
- Familiarity with NEC 4 contracts (Options A, C &
E). - Strong Excel skills for data analysis.
- Ability to work independently and recognise when to escalates issues.
- Team player with collaborative communication skills with clients and the supply chain.
- Detail oriented.
This role is integral to the Major Projects team within RIS, working under a 12‑year NEC 4 term service contract with Milton Keynes City Council to provide maintenance and response services for a comprehensive portfolio of highway assets.
