You've got your engineering qualifications. Now you need the right environment to put them into practice, build your confidence and learn from experienced engineers who can help you develop.

This Trainee Maintenance Engineer opportunity is ideal for someone newly qualified, recently completed an apprenticeship or at the early stages of their career.

You'll join an established food manufacturing business where you'll receive hands-on guidance and mentoring while developing your electrical and mechanical skills. Working alongside experienced colleagues, you'll learn how to maintain, repair and improve a wide range of production machinery, gradually taking on more responsibility as your knowledge grows.

What's in it for you
  • The opportunity to develop your career within an established manufacturing business.
  • Hands-on mentoring and support from experienced electrical and mechanical engineers.
  • Exposure to PLC-controlled machinery, automated production lines and specialist manufacturing equipment.
  • The chance to build practical fault-finding and maintenance skills in a busy production environment.
  • Opportunities to develop your knowledge through training, cross-skilling and involvement in projects.
  • A varied role where you'll gain experience across both PPM and reactive breakdowns.
Your responsibilities as a Trainee Maintenance Engineer
  • Work alongside experienced engineers to diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults on production machinery.
  • Assist with planned preventative maintenance, equipment inspections and routine servicing.
  • Develop your understanding of PLC-controlled equipment, motors, sensors, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Support breakdown repairs, learning how to identify faults and minimise production downtime.
  • Help maintain records, update systems and support machinery improvements and installations.
  • Follow food safety and health and safety procedures, including safe working practices and equipment isolation requirements.
What we're looking for in a Trainee Maintenance Engineer
  • A recognised electrical or mechanical engineering qualification, such as an NVQ Level 3, BTEC, HNC or completed apprenticeship.
  • Some practical engineering experience gained through an apprenticeship, technical training or a trainee maintenance position.
  • A basic understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, including motors, drives, sensors or industrial machinery.
  • Knowledge of engineering drawings, fault-finding principles and safe maintenance practices.
  • Any exposure to manufacturing equipment, PLCs, automation or PPM would be advantageous, although further training and guidance will be provided.

If you've recently qualified, completed your apprenticeship or are looking for an opportunity to develop your practical engineering skills with experienced colleagues supporting your progress, we'd like to hear from you.
