Morgan McKinley Northern Home Counties is proud to be partnering with a well-established and growing SME business based in Northampton. Due to continued growth and increasing demands within the finance function, our client is seeking an experienced and hands‑on Management Accountant to take ownership of the month‑end process and provide valuable financial insight to support business decision‑making.
This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive finance professional who enjoys working in a fast‑paced SME environment and wants to play a key role within a close‑knit finance team. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you will have significant exposure to senior stakeholders and the opportunity to influence business performance.
Key Responsibilities- Take full ownership of the monthly management accounts process, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
- Produce departmental profit and loss accounts and provide meaningful analysis to stakeholders.
- Monitor and report on key business KPIs, identifying trends, investigating variances, and making recommendations for improvement.
- Own the balance sheet reconciliation process, ensuring all accounts are reconciled and reviewed monthly.
- Prepare monthly financial reports and management information packs for senior leadership.
- Assist with the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and financial planning activities.
- Support cash flow forecasting and working capital management.
- Provide detailed financial and analytical support to operational departments.
- Assist with year‑end accounts preparation and support both internal and external audit processes.
- Continuously review and improve financial processes, controls, and reporting efficiencies.
- Support the Finance Director with ad‑hoc projects and business analysis.
- Previous experience in a Management Accountant position within an SME environment.
- Part‑qualified, qualified (ACCA, CIMA, ACA) or qualified by experience.
- Strong management accounting and month‑end reporting experience.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data analysis.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial information to non‑finance stakeholders.
- Self‑motivated with a proactive, hands‑on approach.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet strict deadlines.
- Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Positive, flexible attitude and willingness to support the wider business.
