Senior Occupational Therapist (FTC) – Specialist Moving and Handling
We have an exciting opportunity to join the Specialist Moving and Handling Team within West Northamptonshire Council. We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly skilled Occupational Therapist with substantial expertise in moving and handling, who will provide clinical leadership and drive the continued development of our specialist service.
Work Hours and Schedule37 hours per week – Monday to Thursday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Friday 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Flexibility may be required.
Key Responsibilities- Undertake holistic assessments to support individuals, families, and carers with moving and handling.
- Manage a varied caseload, planning and delivering effective, outcome‑focused interventions.
- Develop and implement person‑centred support plans that promote independence and wellbeing.
- Work closely with formal and informal care providers to ensure interventions are delivered safely, effectively, and in line with best practice.
- Communicate effectively with individuals, families, carers, and professionals, providing regular updates and feedback.
- Complete clear, accurate, and timely case notes, assessments, and reports in line with service requirements and professional standards.
- Assess for and recommend appropriate equipment and adaptations.
- Support individuals to improve their independence, confidence, and safety within their home environment.
- Provide specialist moving and handling advice and guidance to colleagues, care providers, and partner agencies.
- Contribute to the development of best practice, service improvements, and high‑quality outcomes across the team.
- Valid HCPC registration and a recognised degree or diploma in occupational therapy.
- Experience in moving and handling, including plan writing and equipment provision.
- Confidence undertaking moving and handling assessments and Mental Capacity Assessments.
- Demonstrated sound professional judgement, including in complex situations.
- Strong communication and team‑working skills.
- Effective caseload management and prioritisation of competing demands.
- Commitment to work until the end date of 22 July 2027.
- Full driving licence and access to a vehicle; willingness to travel across West Northamptonshire.
- Experience supporting or mentoring students and junior staff.
- Delivering training to health and social care professionals.
- Service development, audit activity, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Working within multidisciplinary teams and contributing to professional forums or best practice networks.
- Competitive salary: £42,861 – £46,304 pro rata.
- Full‑time permanent contract.

Qualifications:
